Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Auto Body Painter prepares and paints vehicles and other automotive surfaces, ensuring a high-quality, flawless finish. The role involves surface preparation, paint application, and touch-ups on damaged or repaired vehicles, ensuring customer satisfaction and meeting industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Surface Preparation:

o Sand, grind, and prime surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of the paint. o Mask and tape surfaces are not painted to protect against overspray. o Fill dents or imperfections with putty and sand to smooth the surface.

  • Paint Application:

o Select and mix paint colors to match the vehicle’s original color or as per customer specifications. o Apply primers, base coats, clear coats, or specialized finishes using spray guns and other painting tools. o Ensure proper thickness, evenness, and consistency of paint layers.

  • Quality Control:

o Inspect painted surfaces for any defects or imperfections (e.g., bubbles, uneven coverage). o Correct imperfections through touch-ups or by repainting certain areas if necessary. o Ensure that the final paint finish meets quality and customer standards.

  • Equipment Maintenance:

o Clean and maintain paint sprayers, nozzles, and other equipment. o Ensure that all painting tools and equipment are in proper working condition and stored appropriately.

  • Safety and Compliance:

o Follow all safety protocols related to handling chemicals and spray equipment. o Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding paint disposal and the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

  • Customer Service:

o Communicate with customers and team members to ensure the vehicle’s paint job meets expectations. o Provide recommendations and expert opinions on the appropriate finish and color selection.

  • Collaboration:

o Work with auto body technicians and other team members to ensure seamless repair and painting processes. o Coordinate with management for timelines, color matching, and job prioritization.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by R& R Auto Ltd

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an auto body painter or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of automotive paint systems, color mixing, and application techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Ability to operate spray guns, sanding tools, and related painting equipment.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Basic understanding of auto body repair techniques is a plus.

Education and Certification

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Vocational training in auto body painting or automotive technology (preferred).
  • Certification from organizations such as the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or other industry-recognized programs is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Working conditions may involve exposure to fumes, chemicals, and dust.
  • Requires wearing protective equipment such as masks, gloves, and goggles.
  • Typically works in a garage or auto body shop environment.
  • Meet the physical and mental requirements as established by a licensed physician and/or psychologist selected by R&R Auto Ltd
